The Cargo Bike Chronicles: Stories from Urban Arrow Riders

Rider Name: Lucas Bol, Aptos, California
Urban Arrow: Urban Arrow Family Performance Line

How has owning an Urban Arrow changed your life?

“It has been life changing”, is the answer I always give people when asked how it is. It has shifted my whole lifestyle with my family. As a teacher, my summer with my kids was completely reshaped by the Urban Arrow. We didn’t drive the car for 2 months. We do all park, beach and grocery trips exclusively on the bike year round. It is simply the best. I regret not buying one earlier when my first child was born. Luckily, with baby number three on the way, I’ve extended the kid Urban Arrow phase. I fully plan on keeping the bike after kids as well. I can haul all the equipment I need to coach and play beach volleyball, garden, pick up chicken feed, bags of concrete. With an about 500 pound weight limit, it can handle many tasks. I simply love it. The minivan of bikes, and I am a proud minivan van driver (even before having kids). The ultimate vehicle!

If you have children, what do they think/say about riding in the Urban Arrow?
They love it. We call it “The Bucket”. “Can we take The Bucket”, “Hop in the Bucket”, “Bucket is leaving” are common phrases heard most afternoons after I’m done teaching. The rain cover became a must have. Originally purchased for winter, now it’s a year round luxury wind free ride around town. They can often be found warm and comfortable, reading, eating snacks, playing eye spy, while I’m pedaling away on a cold foggy morning singing and chatting with them as I ride. Being able to see and communicate with them is one of the biggest factors for enjoyment as well. We all love it.

Do you reach for your Urban Arrow more often than your car keys?
Yes! My goal is to only use my car for driving to work. It’s always bike first.

What do you usually carry in your Urban Arrow?
Kids, groceries and volleyballs. Probably in that order.

What is the largest or heaviest item you’ve transported with your Urban Arrow?
Todd Hollebeck – a 6’5″ volleyball machine.
