The Cargo Bike Chronicles: a story by Matt Starkey

Rider Name: Matt Starkey, Santa Cruz CA
Urban Arrow: Urban Arrow Family Cargo

How has owning an Urban Arrow changed your life?
Our Urban Arrow replaced a car and turned trips around town into a fun ride. The best part is seeing a surprised, joyful, or envious look on people’s faces when you roll by with a baby or buddy in the front bucket. These days, I reach for my Urban Arrow more often than my car keys. It’s my daily driver to daycare and work.

How do you use your Urban Arrow?
Commuting, errands, weekend adventures… The best ride is taking an unexpecting friend for a joyride around town in the bucket.

If you have children, what do they think/say about riding in the Urban Arrow?
“Trees” – It’s his only word, but he enjoys pointing to everything that he sees along the ride.

What do you usually carry in your Urban Arrow?
A kiddo.

What is the largest or heaviest item you’ve transported with your Urban Arrow?
A dude or full load of groceries and supplies for a party.

What are your thoughts about the role of cycling and e-cargo bikes in a more sustainable future?
Forget e-cars, get an e-bike. With a 25 mile range, I can take any trip or joyride I’d like around town. The electric assist is delightful for hauling loads uphill or needing to get somewhere quickly. The bucket’s made it so I can pick up a cake, donuts, or even potting soil by bike. Something that’s otherwise super challenging with a bike or small rack.
