How has owning an Urban Arrow changed your life?
It's the best purchase of my life. It pulled me out of postpartum depression 3 years ago. It makes every errand fun with zero car seat battles. My kids adore being waved to and know how to navigate our city. We stopped to watch a snail crawl across the road on the way to the grocery store. School pick up is a breeze. It's made exercise and fresh air a natural part of my daily routine. If I could gift every mom a cargo bike I would.
If you have children, what do they think/say about riding in the Urban Arrow?
My son told me his classmate said his mom is the coolest because she rides a big bike😂 they love it!
Do you reach for your Urban Arrow more often than your car keys?
100%. I only drive twice a week to commute to work. Every other errand and drop off is done on the bike.
How do you use your Urban Arrow? Commuting, errands, weekend adventures... tell us about it!
I use it daily for school and preschool drop offs. This allows me to bypass a very long line of cars and take my kids directly to the front of the school. I love that I’m able to open the door for them and tell them to have a good day instead of rushing them out the car so we don’t stall the drop off line. I also use it to get groceries, as I have two saddle bags on the back. Our weekly library run and sports practices are also part of the equation.
What do you usually carry in your Urban Arrow?
Kids & backpacks. I can also fit their scooters if we want to go to a park. I am able to keep a small camping chair, first aid kit and extra jackets in the back bag as well.
What is the largest or heaviest item you've transported with your Urban Arrow?
A bookshelf that my neighbor was giving away.
What are your thoughts about the role of cycling and e-cargo bikes in a more sustainable future?
I think they are ESSENTIAL. Utah has grown exponentially in the past decade and our roads can’t keep up with the car congestion. We also have some of the most toxic air in the world because of exhaust and inversion in the winter. Despite all that, I’ve seen a very organic movement towards cargo bikes. I’m on my city’s RAP Tax committee and we are personally working towards more biking trails in our community.
What has been your greatest or most memorable adventure with your Urban Arrow?
A few weeks after we got it I biked my two kids to the grocery store. It was a beautiful spring day and it felt like we could enjoy all of it. The birds chirping, the breeze. I saw something on the ground and circled the bike back to see it was a large snail crossing the road. My 1 and 3 year old were absolutely fascinated and we watched it complete its slow journey to the other side. It made me realize if we’d taken the car we would’ve missed it all.
