Grab the cargo bike subsidy in Munich when buying your Urban Arrow

The city of Munich is going all-in on sustainable mobility and has launched the “Klimaneutrale Antriebe” (Climate-Neutral Drives) program. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions, fine dust, and noise pollution in the city. A key part of this is encouraging the use of (electric) cargo bikes.

Both individuals and companies, freelancers, associations, housing societies, and other legal entities with a headquarters or branch in Munich can submit an application. And the best part? If you hold a Munich Pass, there are even more benefits for you!

The subsidy applies to all Urban Arrow cargo bikes, as they come with electric pedal assistance as standard.

The amount of funding depends on who is applying and which cargo bike you choose: Individuals and small businesses receive 25% of the net purchase costs, with a maximum of €750 for an electric cargo bike. Larger companies and institutions can get up to 40% of the costs reimbursed, up to a maximum of €2,000. Munich Pass holders, take note! Both the subsidy rate and the maximum funding amount are doubled for you! Sharing bonus: If you make your bike available to others via a sharing platform, you’ll receive an additional €200 for electric cargo bikes.

Your new bike must be brand new and have a minimum load capacity of 120 kg or a transport volume of one cubic meter. For example, the Urban Arrow Family has a maximum load capacity in the transport box of 125 kg. The maximum permissible total weight (bike + rider + load) is 250 kg. Crucial: You must apply for the subsidy before you order your Urban Arrow or make a down payment. A down payment is already considered a binding sales contract. You must keep the bike in your possession for at least three years. Each applicant can receive funding for a maximum of 20 vehicles per calendar year. The City of Munich cargo bike subsidy cannot be combined with other federal or state funding programs.

Applying is easy and done online via the City of Munich’s funding portal. You’ll need to register first, and then you can submit your application. Have the following documents ready: A copy of your ID (for individuals). A commercial register extract or other proof of business activity (for companies). A quote or cost estimate for your desired Urban Arrow. If applicable, proof that you are authorized to submit the application (e.g., as a representative of a housing society). Once your application is approved, you’ll receive a notification. Only then can you officially buy your Urban Arrow. After the purchase, you submit a declaration of use via the portal along with the invoice and the frame number of your cargo bike.
