Who are you?

We are Sofie (35) and Frederik (37), and together we have two sons aged 5 and 2. When our oldest son was six months old, we bought our Urban Arrow to make our life in Amsterdam even more enjoyable and easier at the time with a baby. Looking back, we wish we had done it even earlier. The Urban Arrow cargo bike is the ideal way to transport your family in a fun, fast, and safe manner, even with a small baby.

What was the main reason you decided to purchase an Urban Arrow cargo bike?

The ease with which you can go out with your children and easily take all your belongings with you. Especially in the city, it's much more practical to go by bike than by car. Moreover, an outing no longer just revolves around the destination, the journey itself with the Urban Arrow is already a celebration. You’re outside, you’re moving, and there’s plenty to see along the way. You have all the comforts of a car, but the advantages of a bike.

Is there a specific memory or Urban Arrow moment that stands out since you got the bike?

In December, we always decorate the inside of the Urban Arrow and the rain cover with Christmas lights and take a portable speaker to play Christmas songs. It has become a tradition we look forward to every year.

How has the Urban Arrow helped you discover more of your surroundings, even places you hadn't visited before?

The Urban Arrow has helped us explore our surroundings in a different way. Because you can travel longer distances quicker and more easily than with a regular bike, we've visited places we’d never gone to before. For example, the nature just outside the city or spots we would often just drive past with the car. With the cargo bike, it’s much more relaxing to stop along the way. Even with children, it’s very convenient. They find it an adventure to be outdoors.

What do you always take with you in the cargo bike when you go out?

Our foldable travel buggy (such as the one from Joolz), so we can easily move around at our destination.

What are the biggest benefits you've experienced since using the Urban Arrow cargo bike?

Mobility and speed. We use the car much less, especially for trips within the city. With the Urban Arrow, we can easily take the kids to school, do (a lot of) grocery shopping, or cycle to friends. All without the hassle of parking or traffic jams. It’s surprising how much you can carry. It has made our daily lives easier and more fun.

Are there any accessories or modifications you've made to make the cargo bike even more handy?

We bought the rain cover, so rain doesn’t have to stop us from using the Urban Arrow essential in the Netherlands. Additionally, we recently added an extra bench so we can also bring along friends.

Do you have any tips for families considering getting a cargo bike?

Definitely go for it! Even if your children are still babies, especially then. You’ll enjoy it from the very start. It lowers the barrier to going out, whether for errands, a coffee in the city, or a trip to the park. It’s an investment in convenience and freedom. You can take everything with you, and you’re off in no time. We can’t imagine life without it now.

Which spots in the Amsterdam region would you recommend for a nice family cargo bike trip?

The city center with its beautiful canals and all the lovely spots to stop for a drink and watch the boats, but we also love cycling along the fields and going to the forest. It’s wonderfully peaceful and the ideal setting for children who love to spot animals.
