In the Urban Arrow Tales series, we feature families experiencing their daily adventures with the Family cargo bike. These true Urban Arrow families discover every day how their cargo bike makes family life not only more practical but also much more fun. In this edition, we introduce you to: Isa Hoevens, her husband, and their super cute children Juun & Kobus.
Who are you?
We are Arne, Isa, Juun, Kobus, and have another little one on the way. After living in Amsterdam for 10 years, we've been living in Haarlem for a couple of years now. We enjoy the coziness, the city, and the beach here. Arne works as a lobbyist for Lidl and Isa is a product manager at vtwonen. We've been UA users for 3 years.
What was the main reason you decided to purchase an Urban Arrow cargo bike?
The main reason for us to get an Urban Arrow was the trips to the city and the beach. We live close to the center, where it's not easy to get around by car in Haarlem, so we use it daily. The trips to the beach are also great with the cargo bike; we throw everything in and ride past all the traffic jams in the summer.
What do Juun and Kobus enjoy most about riding the cargo bike?
Juun and Kobus love going to the market, visiting the cheese vendor, and riding over hills and through tunnels. We often stop for an open bridge, where they enjoy watching the boats go by.
How has the cargo bike changed your daily routine?
The cargo bike has brought convenience and freedom. Whenever we are on vacation, we look forward to coming home and taking a ride on our cargo bike.
What are the biggest benefits you've experienced since using the Urban Arrow cargo bike?
We get to the city quickly and can carry a lot of stuff. Additionally, we transport extra kids weekly when friends come to play.
Are there any accessories or modifications you have made to make the cargo bike even more convenient?
We're very happy with our rain cover and suncover, one for the wet autumn and the other for the hot summer. Recently, we added an extra bench and a rear carrier. This way, no one has to sit in the big box, and soon we can attach a rear seat. This will allow us to carry 3 children in the box, 1 on the back, and 1 in a front carrier, more space than in the car!
Do you have any tips for families considering purchasing a cargo bike?
For us, the cargo bike was one of the best purchases in recent years. If you have more than two children, it offers so much convenience and freedom!
What places in and around Haarlem would you recommend for a nice family (cargo) bike trip?
The Dropje van Haarlem, the beaches in Zandvoort and Bloemendaal, a dive in 't Wed, De Haarlemerkweektuin, and the playground Het Paradijsje.
